My writing performance these days is a mere shadow of its November self, but I have been writing ona daily basis. Most of the time it’s not all that much, but it’s still going. I’ve been keeping up a pretty steady 250 word minimum per day, trying to finish last year’s NaNoWriMo manuscript.

That’s not a lot of writing, but part of what I’ve been doing is reading back the manuscript, while writing at the same time. That’s going to come to a close tonight or tomorrow (depending on how soon I feel like sleep). So far I’ve actually quite enjoyed the read. And I’ve got a decent start on a list of the characters I’ve had appear so far. At least those not limited to now-closed sub-plots.

Anyway I just finished printing the pages I hadn’t previously printed – in blue because I’m currently out of black ink in my printer. Still this is just to hep with the read-through so the colour doesn’t really matter. And at least I’ve managed to avoid dropping into a complete black hole after NaNoWriMo this time. Once I’ve finished the re-read I think I can aim for at least 500 a day as a steady goal.

Well, I think it’s always a good sign if you enjoy reading your own story. It means one has not completely screwed things up and had the same experience two nights ago when I re-read one of my oldest stories. I was surprised how much I liked it.

I have no experience with the post-NaNo black hole thingy, though I wasn’t too inclined to blog this week. But this was also due to long hours at work and other stuff. So far, I have used every chance I got to write down another chapter of my story on my iPod touch (and I should probably back it up sometime). Even though I haven’t set myself a goal like you (which I probably should, considering how much it has helped me during NaNo), I can’t really quit the writing. Strange what this one month of craziness can do to you :)

Good luck on hitting your daily goal!

Well today – the first day I’ve set 500 as my official goal – it’s certainly be a success. Some of my plot suddenly clicked into place, thanks to the re-read. As a result I managed to put in over 700 words for the day in maybe half an hour of writing.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t have a black hole after my first NaNo either, so maybe it doesn’t show up until your second attempt. Or maybe it’s just an on again of again thing, and I’ve been hitting it a lot lately. Whichever of those may be true, the big thing is avoiding it, and it seems we’re both doing it quite nicely.
