It was more a whim than any real expectation of taking photos that made me take my camera with me when I went to visit my mother in Apeldoorn, in July of 2008. Even when I decided to take it along when we went for a walk it was mainly a whim. But sometimes whims can pay off. This one did when we ran into a Eurasian Coot building a new nest.

I actually missed the first branch it took to its nest, but managed to catch the next couple. When it then sat on its new nest and started pulling up and rearranging things I was pretty much shooting as soon as my camera was done with the previous photo.

The next day, when I was waiting for the train back home, a little bonus shot arrived, in the form of a steam train, operated for tourists.
